PUD stands for Paratext Update file. Paratext 6 Service Pack 1 added new functionality which allows subsequent software updates to be distributed in small update (patch) files, rather than larger installation packages. These files only contain the changes necessary to update the user's installed Paratext software to the latest version, or to add new applications to an existing Paratext installation.

Once Paratext 6 SP1 is installed, the icon for a .pud file will look like this: —

To install the contents of a .pud file:

  • Double-click on the .pud file.
You will be presented with a screen asking you to select whether or not the update should proceed.

  • To continue, enter Y and hit Enter.
You will see a list of files being updated or added to your system.

  • Press Enter to finish.

Warning for Internet Explorer (IE) users
Users downloading .pud files using Miscrosoft Internet Explorer have reported that downloaded file ends up saved on their hard drive with a .zip extension. If this happens, please do not unzip the file. Instead, just rename the file again, replacing the .zip extension with .pud. The file shoud then operate as expected.
