Templates are useful for creating and distributing local and/or regional specification configurations as a starting point for new projects.

Publication templates are configuration files which can contain two kinds of information:

  • InDesign paragraph and character style configuration instructions.
  • Direct configuration of the specification parameters normally accessed through the Publishing Assistant user interface.

Template files must be named using the form <template name>.isty and located in the folder c:\My Paratext Projects. These files will appear in the Stylesheet drop-down menu on the Publishing Assistant Basics specifications tab. Selecting one of these files will causes the corresponding values in the Publishing Assistant specifications interface to be updated to reflect the values in the file.

GPS Scripture Templates for Publishing Assistant

The GPS Scripture Templates package is provided here courtesy of SIL. Many thanks to Darrel Eppler for the many hours of work put into preparing these, and for sharing them with the PubAssist community.

Introduction

The GPS Scripture Templates for Publishing Assistant have been produced by the Production Services department of Global Publishing Services at SIL International. The GPS Scripture Templates for Publishing Assistant, Version 1.0, includes 28 templates: 16 for text pages that include page headers, such as Scripture text and back matter; and 12 for text pages that do not include page headers, such as front matter. The variations in the templates are based on the following:

  • Page size: 5.25 in. x 8.25 in. or 5.8 in. x 8.7 in.a
  • Number of columns: single column or double column
  • Text alignment: left-aligned or justified
  • Point size of text: 11 point for single column; or 9, 10, or 11 point for double column

The text/back matter templates differ from the front matter templates in two ways:

  • The front matter templates are all single column, whereas the text/back matter templates include both single column and double column layouts.
  • As indicated above, page headers (running heads) are turned off in the front matter templates.

The template names describe the source of the template, page size, number of columns, text alignment, font, and point size of running text. For example:

GPS - 5.25x8.25in - 1 Col - Left - Charis 11 on 13.isty
GPS - 5.25x8.25in - Front Matter - Left - Charis 11 on 13.isty
GPS - 5.8x8.7in - 2 Col - Justified - Charis 10 on 12.isty
GPS - 5.8x8.7in - Front Matter - Justified - Charis 10 on 12.isty

The templates package includes JPEG files showing the layout each text/back matter template will produce for the first page of a book of Scripture and the pages that follow.
